VStar 250. Thoughts?

Does any of you own a VStar 250? I've been biking for 3 decades now and only just got the hyper for the VStar. I'm considering buying a secondhand (two, one for me and one for my son who's now of legal age wow time flies fast). But then most of the stuff I see are of very low mileage. I encountered a 2014 model being sold for only $2K but it only has 1.4K miles? Why is the price so low? The miles range from 1K to 3K miles honestly and it's surprising, quite dubious about it. I want some input from those with high miles on their VStar 250 on deets and info I should know of. I wanna give my son something reliable and he can use for a long time, not just while I'm around.

Not so sure about those prices, they kinda seem suspicious tho if thats how low theyre selling it. Why not go upto 650 though? Could be an option. Anyway regarding the prices, its best to see it in person and bring an expert mechanic with you to check on the good stuf.

$2k for a 2014 with 1.4k miles is actually normal lol don't doubt it. Just make sure the engine is well maintained! Agree with @rastadude42 you need a mechanic if you wanna make sure you get your money's worth.

Yeah, that's pretty normal with the VStar 250 and the $2K price also sounds about right in a lot of markets..
A lot of people buy these as first bikes, ride them for a season or two, maybe put on a thousand miles or so, and then upgrade to something bigger.
They're great for learning and around-town riding, but they aren't really built for long highway trips.
That low mileage is often just a reflection of how they're typically used, not necessarily a red flag of an issue.
The main thing to watch out for with low mileage older bikes, especially carbureted ones like the VStar 250, is issues from sitting.
Gummy carbs are a common complaint if it's been a while since it was last ridden or if it was not properly stored..
I also support the idea of bringing a mechanic for inspection.
It's better to get trained familiar eyes before you make a purchase!

This is super comprehensive and will really help if you haven't bought it yet, @blackcoffee. But yeah it's been like 2 months since so I'm not sure if you were able to push through or if you managed to get a better deal out of it.
