Start button useless now

Okay, hear me out. I think old VStars are beautiful and durable. Maybe it's served me so long already that it decided to stop. Without any warning. The start button is now useless. Everything is good and the wirings seem, at face value, ok. But then again, the start button of my 2005 VStar 650 (wow served me for 20 years already), isn't working now and isn't even starting except if I work with the solenoid. So what should I do? How should I fix this? I'm so not ready to let go yet.

sheesh, 20 years, and now this? first thing, the start button could just be a worn out switch, it wouldnt be surprising after all that time. But if that's not it, the wiring could be a potential problem, I mean really check, especially around the switch and solenoid, loose or corroded wire could be the bane, probably looking at a problem with the button or maybe the relay, you can try bypassing the start switch with a jumper wire and see if it cranks that way. If it does, the start switch is shot.

Nah, don't give up on your VStar yet! it sounds like it might be a simple electrical issue. you can always tart with the easiest checks like that start button, those safety switches, and yes, wirings. A multimeter will be your best friend here.hope you fix it soon!

I think if you want to keep at it, then you should hold out for a little longer and don't give up. If it's just a switch after 20 years of serving you so well, then what's stopping you from getting it doctored now or something. It's a fixer upper of course, what do you expect from a 20 year old bike?? But it's going to last even longer if you care for it. Trust me.
