How long does the glossy tire surface last?

Put new Metzeler ME888s on my '07 Yamaha Star Roadliner and I'm riding in Colorado. My coworker mentioned avoiding hard turns until the tires wear in a bit but I'm not sure how long that slick surface lasts. Is there a mileage range I should aim for?

New tires have a slick release agent, so take it easy on lean angles for the first 50–100 miles. Gradually scrub them in with smooth acceleration, braking, and gentle turns before pushing harder

Most riders don't realize it, but the slick coating on new Metzeler ME888s can last surprisingly long, roughly 100–200 miles...so aggressive leaning before that can really compromise grip and safety.

Both seem to say the same thing (take it easy and let the tires break in before pushing them). So far, I've kept things smooth, mostly riding in the city with gentle curves. I'll keep that up for at least 150mi before trying anything sharper. I didn't realize the release agent could last that long, so I'm glad I checked before heading for the twisties. Do you notice if the front or rear tire breaks in faster or do they wear in about the same? I'm planning a longer ride through the foothills next weekend, so I'll take it easy and see how the grip feels as I go.
