my dad just turn 60 and he just got into this awesome motorcycle world a couple of years back. he started out on a cheap 2009 Honda Shadow Aero 750, and it's been a fantastic learning bike

sadly, its 43.9 BHP makes it struggle to hold highway speeds over 75 MPH, and being a lighter bike, it gets tossed around a bit by the wind up there.

He's looking to step up to something heavier for longer highway tours, and he spotted a 2007 Yamaha V Star 1100 for sale nearby. I know it's an older model, but it's old but gold. I checked it to the spot with him and it's really in a great condition

For those with experience, do you think a V Star 1100 would be a good fit for someone who's looking for stability, comfort, and solid highway cruising? All feedback is much appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

Old but gold is right, still a pretty fine choice. Its heavier and a bit more powerful than the Shadow, so it'll handle highway speeds better and feel more stable and comfortable on longer rides. Good luck!

I'd just be a little cautious about parts availability and carb upkeep, have you and your dad thought about whether he's comfortable maintaining an older bike like the V Star 1100 long-term?

One problem though is that maintenance on older bikes can get pricey, so he might want to consider something newer or more purpose-built for touring.

Good choice! Did the one you checked out have any mods like a windshield or upgraded seat? Those can really boost long-distance comfort!
