2009 Yamaha Stratoliner seat lock damaged

A few weeks ago, my 2009 Yamaha Stratoliner was stolen, but thankfully it was recovered by the police. While inspecting it, I saw that someone tried to force open the seat compartment where the battery and oil are. The keyhole's damageda and my key just bends...a screwdriver didn't work either. Can this be fixed or replaced?
 
Good job to the police! Yes, the damaged seat lock can be fixed or replaced. If the keyhole is bent and unusable, your best bet is to replace the lock mechanism entirely.. A Yamaha dealer or locksmith can help with sourcing the part and getting it installed
 
Sorry to hear about the theft! I had a similar issue on my Stratoliner after a rough transport. Brought it to a locksmith to pop it open without more damage, then you can look for a replacement latch or lock assembly online. Hope it's a quick fix!

Thanks, that's reassuring. I'll check with a Yamaha dealer about getting a replacement lock, hopefully it's a straightforward swap without needing major modifications

Thanks, that's a good idea, I'll try a locksmith first to get it open cleanly, then search online for a replacement latch or lock assembly
 
The mechanism can be replaced with no issues. The problem is that you'll need to pry it open before you do anything to it. I know people who've done these kinds of things themselves, but you're risking creating more damage than before, so there's no point in risking it. BTW, was there any other damage?
