Problems with my V star 1100

Basically, I wanted to clean up the cockpit and relocated the ignition switch off the bars. That part went smooth, but ever since I messed with the start button wiring, it's been acting up, sometimes won't crank, other times it starts fine. I double checked grounds and connections, but something's off and I don't know if it could it be the starter relay, or did I mess up the kill switch circuit when I spliced into it? anyone else done a similar mod on their V Star or another Yamaha Star model? I'd love to hear your thoughts

@stunning_lou have you checked the wiring again? with a case like this, it's usually bcs of the loose wiring. although it can be caused by other things too

check all connections again, around the start button and kill switch and use a multimeter to see if anything's loose or broken, might just be kill switch acting up or sth

I'm no expert but that sounds like a solid mod idea, and you're right,those pesky electrical issues tend to pop up when wires get jostled around. It could be the starter relay causing the trouble, but I'd also recommend taking a close look at the kill switch circuit since you spliced into it. A crossed or loose connection in that area can really put a damper on things. Hopefully, someone else who has tackled a similar cockpit cleanup on a Star can share their experiences and let us know what challenges they faced.

idk, sounds like you disturbed something important.
you need to recheck all your splices. Even good ones can hide a tiny break or bad connection. Tug on them, test continuity with a multimeter while wiggling. from my experience, this is the #1 suspect
