Whining sound normal?

I'm looking to purchase a secondhand V-Star 1300. First is a 2017 with 20,000 miles, second is a 2015 with 22,000 miles. I'm leaning towards getting the 2017 but when I inspected it, I noticed that it makes a whining sound that gets more high-pitched when the engine revved up. The seller says it's just normal but the 2015 doesn't make this kind of noise. Does anyone know if this is really normal, or what could be the issue? I'm not sure if it's a deal breaker or something that can be fixed easily. I need advice.

Could be something simple like the belt being too tight or a bearing starting to go, but it could also be clutch or transmission related, which gets expensive fast, if you're really all for d 2017, I'd at least have a mechanic give it a listen before handing over cash. These bikes are reliable, but weird noises should never just be brushed off as normal

The whining sound could be a worn clutch? It's not always normal, so definitely get it checked or tested more before anything too expensive. I believe it's possible that all it needs is an easy fix, but you seriously have to spend a little more on diagnostics or else something terrible might happen.

Yeah, some say that whine it's just clutch basket noise and totally normal, but if the 2015 is quieter, it might be worth a second listen. Did both bikes have similar mods or setups?

Not normal. It's something to be cautious about since it might lead to costly repairs down the line. Definitely get a mechanic to check it out before buying, if the 2015 is quiet, that's usually a better sign of health.
